Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 DET-2 returns from deployment
Sailors, assigned to Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30, Detachment 2, returned to their home base at Naval Air Station North Island following a 10-month deployment, as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation, Oct. 1.
VRM-30 Detachment 2 deployed with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9, embarked aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and assigned to Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 3, Nov. 21, 2025. Operating the CMV-22B Osprey, the squadron provided critical Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) support, executing high-tempo logistics missions across vast distances in support of strike group operations.
“I could not be prouder of the team and everything they accomplished over the past 10 months,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jake Schmidt, officer-in-charge. “The Gamblers executed a demanding, extended deployment, delivering critical logistics support that kept the strike group in the fight. The CMV-22B Osprey proved its value every day, and this team met every challenge with professionalism, resilience, and an unwavering focus on the mission.”
During the deployment, the command played an essential role in sustaining the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group’s operational momentum. The squadron successfully executed 269 logistics sorties, transporting critical personnel, high-priority cargo, and mail between the carrier, other ships within the strike group, and shore facilities. Their efforts directly contributed to the strike group’s ability to remain on station in U.S. 5th Fleet during Operation Epic Fury and the U.S. maritime blockade of Iranian ports.
The high-performing detachment executed eight complex moves, logging 825 flight hours, 269 sorties, and 159 combat flight hours. The squadron delivered 340,069 pounds of cargo, 1,669 passengers, and 85 distinguished visitors. The detachment also accomplished the first-ever long-range sortie requiring midair refueling, resulting in the delivery of parts over 1,350 miles on 38 occasions.
Operating the most advanced aircraft in the U.S. inventory, CVW-9 is a next-generation, multi-platform air wing, enabling mobile naval air power projection and forward operational presence. The nine squadrons in the air wing are Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314; the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet squadrons Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14, VFA-41 and VFA-151; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133; Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 117; Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 14; and Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30.
The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group consists of flagship Abraham Lincoln, embarked staffs of Carrier Strike Group 3 and Destroyer Squadron 21, CVW-9, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121) serving as the integrated air and missile defense commander, and DESRON 21’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance (DDG 111) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112).
Spruance and Michael Murphy remain underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet and U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting global maritime security operations.
