BS27-1: Ground transportation keeps Kadena mission-ready
KADENA AIR BASE, Japan — Airmen assigned to the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron provide essential support during Beverly Sword 27-1, ensuring personnel and equipment can move across the installation during simulated contingency operations.
Airmen rely on transportation support to move between locations, deliver critical equipment to mission partners and sustain operations during simulated attacks. Maintaining around the clock transportation allows units to keep their missions going uninterrupted.
“We were running about seven shuttles throughout the base.” Said Tech. Sergeant Jarrod Alston, 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron ground transportation non commissioned officer in charge. “We were helping 18th Civil Engineer Squadron, Munitions Squadron, and Petroleum, Lubricant, and Oil flight generate airpower by transporting equipment for rapid airfield repairs.”
Ground transportation support is especially important during contingency operations, when personnel and equipment must move quickly to support changing mission requirements. Transportation operators help connect the people and resources needed to accomplish the mission.
“Nothing flies without a supply mentality.” Said Senior Airman T.J. Tosie, 18th LRS ground transportation support operator. “Us moving Airmen, cargo and equipment helps with so many things in a broader aspect.”
Through their support during BS27-1, ground transportation Airmen demonstrate how reliable personnel and cargo movements contribute to the 18th Wing’s ability to respond to emergencies, sustain forces and maintain operational readiness.
